As a tree grows its leaves get more sunlight helping it in the process of photosynthesis. Branches spreading outward helps it gather more sunlight in a day hence it creates a shade like structure.
It is the intricate branches that grow more and more fanning out until together they form a single continuous canopy dense enough to filter sunlight helping us in a sunny day for a shade. They make up a whole shade to block sunlight, that's what drew me in. How such small things could end up as such an advanced structure to solve a real problem.
