A large cloud can be seen under the Moon. This cumulonimbus cloud is formed by convection, a process in which warm air rises, expands, cools, and condenses into a vertically developed cloud. It naturally optimizes heat transfer by transporting thermal energy from Earth's surface into the upper atmosphere. The same principles of buoyancy, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics underpin many engineered cooling and ventilation systems.
I have always been fascinated by the sky, photography and geoengineering; and this moment weaves all three together. Capturing it encouraged me to look beyond its beauty and appreciate the remarkable engineering principles that govern our atmosphere; and thus my selection of this photo is a reflection of these values I hold.
