The Science
This photograph shows how earth's geographical processes and climate shape the mountain landscapes. Mountains form over million of years through the movement and Collision of tectonic plates. At higher altitudes, temperatures are lower, allowing snow to accumulate. During summers this snow melts, supplying rivers, providing fresh water and supporting the ecosystem below. Snow-covered mountains like these are commonly found in the northern regions of Pakistan, including the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges, where high altitudes keep temperatures below freezing for much of the year.
Why I Chose It
I chose this photograph because it showcases several scientific concepts in one scene, including mountain formation, climate, and the water cycle. The snow-covered peak is visually striking while also demonstrating how Earth's natural processes shape landscapes and support life, making it an ideal image for a science photography competition.
