These bare trees are deciduous, meaning they lose their leaves to save energy during certain seasons. Because they have no leaves, there is nowhere for climbing predators to hide. This forces birds to nest in these exposed branches, giving them a clear view of danger from all sides. It is a perfect example of how animals use nature's structure to stay safe.
